Call Back Interviews

Promising candidates are invited back to our offices for a call back interview to meet with additional partners and associates and to get a sense of the Firm, its people and our practices.

Candidates are contacted by phone, then sent a formal letter offering the opportunity to visit the Firm for additional interviews. In most instances, candidates are invited to attend one of our “Recruiting Program Weekends.” The programs begin on a Friday evening with a cocktail reception at the Firm that most, if not all, of our attorneys attend. Each candidate then goes to dinner with two attorneys, providing an opportunity in a less formal atmosphere, to get to know a little more about the Firm.

On Saturday morning, candidates return to the Firm for a continental breakfast and then begin the interview process. Five 30-minute interviews are scheduled, followed by an informal lunch held in our dining room.

This approach is different from those of other firms. Both candidates and our attorneys have found that our Recruiting Program Weekends afford all participants a distraction-free time to discuss career opportunities with our Firm.

These programs are generally held in September and October, with each program consisting of no more than 25 law students. Should travel be involved, the Firm will pay the airfare, hotel costs and appropriate expenses related to your visit. If you are unable to attend one of the Recruiting Program Weekends, our recruiting coordinator will assist you in scheduling weekday interviews.

If you receive an offer to visit SGR for interviews, we encourage you to decide first if you are truly interested in the Firm. Please submit your reply to the invitation promptly, regarding your continued interest.

If you choose to schedule a weekday interview, you should plan for an opportunity to attend a dinner on the evening before your interview day, together with five individual 30-minute interviews and lunch the following day. While the weekday interview schedule certainly affords you an opportunity to learn about SGR, due to the time constraints of ongoing client matters, these interview schedules generally result in a more limited amount of interaction with the attorneys than does participation in one of the Recruiting Program Weekends.
