David N. Minkin
David N. Minkin is a Partner in the Real Estate Practice at Smith, Gambrell & Russell, LLP.
Mr. Minkin has experience in the areas of commercial real estate, financial restructuring, corporate finance, tax credit real estate development, government relations and alternative dispute resolution. Using his training at Harvard University Business School and his business experience, Mr. Minkin has worked extensively with family businesses. Mr. Minkin is also Adjunct Professor at the Georgia State University College of Law teaching Advanced Real Estate Transactions.
Mr. Minkin’s representative experience includes the following:
- Development of business parks throughout Southeast United States for a major oil company
- Development of thirty-story office building and the negotiation of the anchor lease for the building for a major insurance company
- Development of a 300 acre business park in Atlanta for a prominent developer
- Development of a 4 million square foot distribution center in Atlanta for a major distribution center developer
- Development and sale of shopping centers for a major shopping center developer
- Management and sale of The Algonquin Hotel in New York City
- Negotiation of 60-year ground lease for hotel development
- Development of multi-family developments, retail centers and office buildings throughout the United States for major national banks
- $800 million restructure with prominent developer involving property in seven states, major sports team and 20 lenders for major national bank
- Creation of $100 million standby commitment for development of multi-family housing for major insurance company
- Various restructures and workouts involving residential subdivisions, multi-family developments, office buildings, retail centers, hotels and distribution centers
- Outside “general counsel” for over 10 years for company whose business involves converting municipal solid waste into ethanol
- Outside “general counsel” for over 5 years for company whose business involves development of affordable housing and the syndication of tax credits
Mr. Minkin’s involvement in civic organizations has included serving as President of the Jewish Federation of Greater Atlanta, President of the Greenfield Hebrew Academy of Atlanta, Vice President of the Council of Jewish Federations, and Chair of the Council of Jewish Federations Committee on Unity of the Jewish People.
Prior to joining Smith, Gambrell & Russell, Mr. Minkin was Founding Partner of Minkin & Snyder law firm and co-Managing Shareholder of Greenberg Traurig’s Atlanta office.
Mr. Minkin earned his AB degree from Cornell University, his JD degree from Harvard Law School and his MBA degree from Harvard Business School. He is admitted to the Georgia Bar, Massachusetts Bar and New York Bar.
